Cookies & privacy

This site has no accounts, no forms and no advertising. We never ask for, and cannot receive, your seed phrase. This page explains, in plain language, the small amount of measurement we use to see which guides are helpful, and how to change your cookie choice.

In short
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. It is always on.
  • Google Analytics uses cookies, so it is off unless you click "Accept analytics cookies". If you click "Reject" or ignore the banner, nothing is sent to Google.
  • You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
  • Your light/dark choice and checklist ticks are kept in your own browser and are never sent to us.

Cloudflare Web Analytics (no cookies)

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare adds a small script to each page that measures how many pages are viewed and how quickly they load. Cloudflare says this script:

  • does not set cookies or use your browser's storage (local storage, session storage or IndexedDB);
  • does not fingerprint visitors or follow you across other websites;
  • receives your IP address only as part of the normal web request and discards it rather than storing it.

What it collects: the page address, the page you came from (the referrer), page-load timings and Core Web Vitals, and broad details such as country and browser type. We see only totals, for example "300 views of the estate guide from the UK this week". Because it stores nothing on your device and does not identify you, it does not need a consent banner.

Google Analytics (only if you accept)

Google Analytics gives more detail, such as how people move between guides and which searches or sites bring them here. It uses cookies, so under UK and EU rules (PECR and the UK GDPR) we ask first.

  • Before you choose, and if you reject: the Google Analytics code is not loaded at all, so your browser makes no connection to Google from this site and no Google cookies are set.
  • If you accept: your browser loads Google's script and sets first-party cookies called _ga and _ga_…. Google says these distinguish visitors and sessions and last up to 2 years by default (browsers may shorten this).
  • What Google receives: the pages you view, roughly how long you stay, the page you came from, your device and browser type, screen size and approximate location (country or city). Google says it does not log or store the IP addresses of visitors from the UK, EU or Switzerland: it uses them only to work out approximate location and then discards them.
  • What we switch off: Google signals and ad personalisation are disabled, and advertising consent stays "denied". We do not link Google Analytics to any advertising account and we do not sell data.
  • Retention: Google keeps detailed event data for the period set in the account (2 or 14 months for standard properties); reports show totals.

Changing your choice

  • Use Cookie settings (bottom of every page, or the button above) to accept or reject again.
  • If you withdraw consent, we stop Google Analytics on this site and delete its _ga cookies from your browser.
  • Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage (key pa-analytics-consent), not in a cookie. Clearing your site data resets it, and the banner will ask again.
  • You can also block cookies or install Google's opt-out browser add-on.

What we never do

  • Ask for, collect or generate seed phrases, private keys or passwords. There are no forms on this site.
  • Show adverts, use affiliate links or sell data.
  • Load other third-party scripts: the security policy allows only this site, Cloudflare's analytics and, after you accept, Google Analytics.
